Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. Soroptimist was founded in Oakland in 1921 by women who were denied access to a male service club. Soroptimist International of Davis formed in 1954. All genders are welcome. Today there are some 80,000 Soroptimists in 120 countries and territories. SI Davis’ major fundraiser is selling beer and wine at the Davis Farmers Market. Each year, it reinvests those funds in its programs and projects. These include Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women, and Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls at King High School. It also funds high school scholarships, grants to nonprofits that align with the Soroptimist mission, and anti-trafficking efforts. For more information on the club, visit sidavis.org or follow its Facebook or Instagram pages: @SoroptimistDavis. September through June, our club meets three Wednesdays a month at 11:45 a.m. at Three Mile Brewing, 231 G St. #3, Davis. Year-round, it meets one Tuesday evening a month, 5:30-7 p.m. at Woodstock’s Pizza, 219 G St., Davis. Please check our calendar at www.sidavis.org.
