After 18 years of Kaan Kurtural’s academic service in publishing over 100 journal articles on winegrapes at UC Davis and Fresno State, Kaan and his wife Carrie formed Kurtural Family Vineyards in 2022. They operate Slayback vineyard in Davis, CA. The vineyard is home to winemaker clones of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah. Kaan and Carrie conduct the majority of the sustainable farming, including all agronomy, spraying, and irrigation, with their sons. The vineyard is connected to a smart irrigation system, where the vines are spoon-fed water and nutrients to each separate varietal as needed throughout the year. Kurtural wines are produced from this single vineyard.
