California's Fair Chance Act or "Ban the Box" law went into effect on January 1, 2018, prohibiting employers with five or more employees from asking about criminal history before extending a conditional offer of employment to a job applicant. Recently, California's Civil Rights Department approved expanded regulations that define how employers may assess criminal histories, including notice requirements as well as how and when background information can be used. #employmentlaws
